About the movement

Black Lives Matter is a social movement that aims to stop police brutality, violence, and discrimination against black people all around the world.

The movement started in 2013, with the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter, after the killing of Trayvon Martin. In 2020, the movement gained momentum after four police officers were involved in the murder of George Floyd.

Black voices deserve to be heard and we must do our part to ensure that police brutality and violence against black citizens is stopped.

Black lives matter. All of them.

Our mission

At Fighting For Equality, our goal is to reach as many people as possible and spread information about the BLM movement. It is our job to get involved in the cause and help fight for black rights all around the world.

We have lists of different websites, books, films, and podcasts that can further educate people about the history of the movement and what it means in today’s time. There are embedded links about specific projects and links to other web lists that can be used to find even more details about the BLM movement.

We also have links to various petitions and charities that are all supporting the cause. Every cent counts towards building a better justice system and future for black citizens all over the globe. If you do not have money to donate, that’s okay; take two minutes out of your day to sign any of the petitions provided on our website.

After donating and/or signing the petitions, you can play some games on our website which we have created. These games are intended for a younger audience so they can have fun while learning more about the movement.

Petitions

  • NOTE: Do NOT donate to Change.org. The money goes towards running their websites, not the causes that they advertise. Signing and sharing their petitions is completely safe and supports the causes listed. If you wish to donate, follow any of the links provided under the “Donate” section.

  • Defund the police:
This petition aims to defund the police and reform the police system to avoid the brutal killings of innocent black people. The website also has links to other resources and information as well as numbers and emails of legislators based on the Canadian region you live in.

  • Justice for Regis Korchinski-Paquet:                Regis Korchinski-Paquet was killed by Toronto Police but her death was framed as a suicide. The Special Investigative Unit is currently being investigated the crime for possible police brutality. She is amongst numerous other victims, in Canada and the rest of North America, that has been subjected to police brutality.

Publish Racial Data on Police-Involved Deaths:
This petition aims to have racial data in police-caused deaths displayed on Statistics Canada. Currently, Statistics Canada only reports on the incident if the officer is charged. To help all victims of racially-motivated police brutality, the data of all cases should be published on Statistics Canada.

Teach Black History in Canadian Schools:
This petition focuses on the history of black Canadians and how they have been treated by the Canadian government and police system. This will educate children and inform them of past injustices to ensure they become proactive and anti-racist adults once they graduate.

Remove John A. Macdonald Monument (Montreal):
This petition is directed at Montreal’s mayor and city council to remove the statue of John A. Macdonald, as it is an insult to people of colour across Canada. The statue is on Indigenous land and it promotes racism against black people with its display of confederate flags.
